A couple of years ago,\u00a0<\/span>Green IT<\/span>\u00a0was top of everyone\u2019s mind, but in typical hype cycle fashion, it has moved down the curve and has been replaced by virtual, cloud and now this year social IT.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
But is Green IT really dead?\u00a0 With oil prices continuing to fluctuate, the cost of powering and cooling a datacenter seem to be even more important.\u00a0 An article recently popped up again about\u00a0<\/span>using bio gas<\/span><\/a>\u00a0to fuel data centers and when googling, found out that an actual scientific paper had been produced;\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>Design of Farm Waste-Driven Supply Side Infrastructure for Data Centers<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0 So that then got me thinking, if they can power a data center with 10,000 dairy cows, with the three large dogs in the back yard, I should at least be able to power the mobile phone and ipad.<\/span><\/div>\n

But on a serious note, there still seems to be a lot of potential \u201cgreen\u201d to be saved by better power management, continuing to use SaaS based applications like remote meetings, heck even just turning off the lights for a floor when no one is there.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

So why do we still see buildings with all the lights on when no one is home.\u00a0 Why do we still see desktops fully powered up and left on overnight.<\/span><\/div>\n
